Celebrating a Major Milestone!

Posted by: Kurtis Bednarcyk This year will mark Design Pool & Spa’s 30th season with President E. Gary Bednarcyk at the helm. Since acquiring the company in 1986, Gary and his wife, Patty, who serves as office manager, have advanced the former few-man, seasonal operation into a team that handles year-round, residential and commercial construction, service, maintenance, and an on-site retail store. As DP&S grew during their early years of leadership, so too did the Bednarcyk family. Those paths have since merged as their sons Kody and Kurtis, and daughter Kacie (along with a couple of uncles) have joined their folks in pursuit of the company’s continued success. “Anniversaries are nature’s…

This Winter’s Forecast? Pool Building!

Who thinks of November as pool-building season? We do! Here at Design Pool & Spa we’re accustomed to building year-round. Normally in November we’re wearing jackets and gloves.   But, as you can see in this video, our crew is looking quite comfortable in light shirts and t-shirts! It turns out that this November has been one of the warmest on record. And, AccuWeather.com says to look for a milder winter in Upstate New York this year with less lake effect snow than usual.  That means we’ll continue to design and build awesome pools for our customers all winter long. Are we getting spoiled with this mild weather. Maybe, but who knows? One of…

Team Building in the Trees

by Gary Bednarcyk This summer our entire staff – sales, operations, retail, construction and service – embarked on a team building adventure.   We spent hours traversing the trees at Bristol Mountain’s Ariel Adventures Park.   And, it was a blast! We all felt the thrill that came with testing ourselves and trying something new. Occasionally someone would need a helping hand to get to the next level. It was great to hear the cheers as successful climbs and leaps were made, and fears were overcome.             Our team left the park with new insight into — and appreciation for — one another.   And that’s really what…

We’re celebrating our 2500th pool!

By Kody Bednarcyk Design Pool & Spa is celebrating a major milestone this summer. Our company, which began operations dating back to 1968, recently completed construction of its 2500th inground pool. The pool is extra special to its owners, James and Jessica Barons, because it represents a family dream come true. Here’s what they had to say: “We envisioned a pool that would become an extension of our home and create a place our whole family could spend time together,” explains James Barons. “It was amazing to see our design ideas come to life.” Design Pool & Spa builds custom, gunite pools that can be contoured to suit almost any environment…

Pool Filtration News: Ultraviolet Sanitation System

By Bucky Frusco One technology many pool owners may not know about for pool maintenance is Ultraviolet sterilization. UV light is a powerful tool in the fight against algae, germs, and bacteria, and can be used in conjunction with a sand filter to keep your pool water healthy and sparkling. How UV Sanitation Works: UV Pool systems are designed to take the power of ultraviolet light in order to reduce levels of chemicals and eliminate the need for chlorine byproducts while keeping a pool clean, manageable, and healthier for all. The system can be easily installed just in-line of a pool’s filter system. Once installed, the system will attack the pool’s…
