It’s fun to plan and design a new pool! One of the first questions we hear is: “how big should our new pool be?” There is no easy answer to that question. However, one of the best things about building a pool means that you can tailor the design to suit your specific wants and needs. Here are some key questions to help you figure out the perfect pool size:

  • Who will be the main users be –kids or adults? And, how often will they use the pool?
  • What will they use if for? Taking a quick dip? Laps? Floating on a raft and sunning?
  • How much entertaining will you be doing? Will you have to accommodate larger crowds from time to time? (Remember, statistics show that approximately 50% of any group is in the pool swimming at one time during an event such as a party, family gathering, etc.)
  • Will your family size be changing in the upcoming years?
  • Will you need space on your property for other items, such as jungle gyms, basketball or tennis courts, or perhaps a pool house?

 How Big is Big?

Sometimes it’s hard to envision how much space a pool will actually take up. We encourage our clients to walk their property and outline the pool and pool deck in spray paint. Of course, depending on what kind of pool your building, you may not restricted to rectangular shapes. Learn more about the pros and cons of different building materials here.

Is There a “Typical” Pool?
